an online literary magazine for extra pungent poetry and prose

Collin Garrity

Soup for Throwing

soup for throwing          cans for kicking,
lifting weights to simulate work,      gathering
food from labyrinthian aisles,           hunting
for deals     so trivial they can only be symbolic

soup for warming over a digital fire
cans for sucking at,         stones for throwing
on a sexless bloodless tuesday          for sport.
and all these inconvenient truths
become the metronomic sameness of days.

your pockets are full but you are not hungry.
in an alley, you have just found one flawless shoe.
you have returned from shopping and the fridge is dead.
you have been handed cashews
by a god who knows you have no teeth
